Greetings from Team Opal House Guatemala, we need your help to purchase a daily work truck!
It is critical to running the farm and completing the harvests so that we may become more self sufficient and help out our childrens programs. We need the truck to build more buildings, transport harvests and for a number of hardware store runs.
The truck needs to be a four by four for traction here on the farm and on bad roads around the farm. Cars are not able to reach the lower portion of the farm for a variety of reasons including washed out roads.
We are looking for a turbo diesel for fuel efficiency as diesel fuel is 20% cheaper in Guatemala. A mid to full size truck, recent model and low miles will allow us to service it for decades to come. The newer models are very fuel efficient and economic and much easier to get parts for.
We have narrowed it down to three American made options which include the Chevy Duramax 2500 diesel 4×4, the Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel 4×4, and or the Ford 250 diesel 4×4.
The approximate costs we are budgeting for is $30,000.00. With your help, we can obtain one of the above.
Purchasing a truck is crucial to our survival.
We cannot run a 75 acre farm and continue to function properly for all of the childrens programs here without a farm work truck. Without this truck, we will have a real challenge in harvesting our crops and carrying on the work that is making such a difference in developing a self sustaining community here at Opal House.
Recently we just harvested Hass avacados for market. It is a satisfying feeling to see how far we have come in the past few years. We are now producing bananas, guavas, mandarins and other fruits for the children as well as our 2016 organic coffee harvest.
